Kurt Kitayama

Two weeks after earning a European Tour card Kurt Kitayama claimed his first European Tour victory at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at Anahita. The American made his way through all three stages of Qualifying School to earn his European Tour playing rights for 2019, and in his third start at that level he opened with a pair of 65s to lead by two at the halfway stage in Mauritius. A third round 70 opened the door for South African Justin Harding, who joined Kitayama at the top of the leaderboard on 16 under par with one round to play. The 25 year old began his final round with two birdies and an eagle in his first five holes to put any nerves to bed, before finishing off the job with a birdie at the 17th to seal a maiden European Tour title. The victory meant Kitayama jumped to second in the early Race to Dubai Rankings.
